Erreur fréquente : mixing planned launch pre-orders with accidental stockouts in the same queue.

Erreur fréquente : letting backordered items appear in the same pick batch as ready orders.

Ajouter une date stock prévue

Attach the supplier ETA, purchase order date or inbound delivery reference to the held order. Customer service needs the same date that purchasing uses, even if it changes later.

Erreur fréquente : storing supplier ETAs in email threads instead of the order workflow.

Réserver le stock entrant par priorité

Define which orders get stock first: oldest paid order, VIP customer, marketplace SLA, launch promise or high-margin bundle. Keep the priority visible in ChannelDock Order Management.

Erreur fréquente : releasing stock to the loudest customer instead of the agreed priority rule.

Décider de scinder l’expédition

For multi-item orders, ship available items now only when the extra carrier cost, marketplace rules and customer expectation make sense. Otherwise keep the whole order on hold until it is complete.

Erreur fréquente : splitting every order and turning one margin problem into two shipping costs.

Informer les clients avec un choix clair

Tell customers what is delayed, the expected dispatch date and their options: wait, cancel, substitute or split. Keep the message factual and aligned with marketplace service requirements.

Erreur fréquente : sending vague “soon back in stock” updates without a decision path.

When inventory is received, remove the hold, confirm the stock allocation and push the order into the normal pick and pack process. Check that tracking updates flow back to the original channel.

Erreur fréquente : receiving stock but forgetting to move old held orders back into fulfilment.

Backorders are not only an inventory problem. They are an order-status problem, a customer-communication problem and a warehouse-priority problem at the same time.

Pièges fréquents des backorders

  • Selling pre-orders without a clear delivery window or cancellation policy.
  • Letting held orders appear in pick lists, which wastes warehouse time.
  • Using spreadsheets for supplier ETAs while customer service works in another tool.
  • Reserving incoming stock manually without a visible priority rule.
  • Forgetting marketplace SLAs when deciding whether to wait, split or cancel.

  • Backorders are tracked in spreadsheets, inboxes and marketplace notes.
  • Warehouse teams discover missing stock after picking has already started.
  • Customer service cannot see whether incoming stock is already reserved.

Avec ChannelDock

  • Order statuses show which orders are held, waiting on stock or ready to release.
  • Teams use one order overview for ETA, priority and fulfilment decisions.
  • Libérerd orders move back into picking, labels and tracking without retyping data.

FAQ backorders et précommandes

Classify the order, hold it avant picking, add an expected stock date, reserve incoming inventory by priority and release it once stock is available.

A pre-order is usually a planned sale before launch or replenishment. A backorder is an order that cannot ship because available stock is missing or delayed.

Only allow it when you have a clear ETA, margin room for extra service work and a customer communication flow for cancellations, substitutes or split shipments.

Utilisez order holds and release rules so delayed orders do not appear in pick lists, packing screens or label batches until stock is allocated.

Split only when the customer or marketplace requires it, the available items are valuable enough to ship now and the extra carrier cost does not erase the margin.

ChannelDock Order Management helps centralise order statuses, holds, release decisions and fulfilment handoff for delayed orders.
