Internetmarke page format (label size) settings

When ChannelDock buys a Deutsche Post Internetmarke (online postage) for a letter or small-goods shipment, the stamp is generated as a PDF. The page format (also called pageFormatId) controls the size and layout of that PDF — for example, whether it prints on a DIN A4 sheet, directly onto an envelope, or on a continuous-roll thermal label printer.

What the page format ID is

The Internetmarke API identifies each printable format by a numeric page format ID. ChannelDock sends this ID with every label request so Deutsche Post returns the stamp in the correct layout for your printer.

Each format returned by the API describes:

  • id — the page format ID you send when ordering labels
  • name — a human-readable name (e.g. DIN A4 Normalpapier or Dymo 99014, 101 x 54)
  • pageType — the print medium: REGULARPAGE (plain paper), ENVELOPE (envelope), LABELPRINTER (thermal label printer roll), or LABELPAGE (A4 sheet of die-cut labels)
  • pageLayout.size — page dimensions in millimetres (x, y)
  • pageLayout.labelCount — how many labels fit on one page (labelX, labelY)
  • isAddressPossible — whether the recipient address can be printed on the franking mark for this format

How ChannelDock chooses the page format automatically

When you connect your Internetmarke (Portokasse) account, ChannelDock automatically picks a sensible default page format ID for that connection:

  1. It looks for a single-label thermal LABELPRINTER format (one label per page) that can print addresses and is close to a 100 × 54 mm shipping label. In the current catalog this resolves to ID 90 (Dymo 99014, 101 x 54).
  2. If no thermal format is available, it falls back to a DIN A4 plain-paper format (ID 1).
  3. If the catalog call fails entirely, it falls back to ID 1 (DIN A4 Normalpapier).

This default is stored on the Internetmarke carrier connection and is used for every Internetmarke shipping method under that connection unless a method overrides it.

Full page format ID reference

Warning — format availability differs per Internetmarke account. The table below lists every page format ID Deutsche Post returned to a live ChannelDock Internetmarke connection in July 2026. Not every account has every format. The formats your own connection can use depend on your Portokasse account type, your contract products, and which formats Deutsche Post has enabled for you. When you ask ChannelDock support to change your page format ID, support will first confirm which formats are available for your specific connection.

The addr column shows whether the recipient address can be printed on the franking mark (Y = yes, N = no). Only Y formats are usable for shipping labels in ChannelDock.

Thermal label printers (LABELPRINTER) — continuous roll, one stamp per label

These are the formats most ChannelDock shippers use. Each prints one franking mark (with recipient address) on a single label cut from a continuous roll.

How to check or change the page format ID

The page format is stored in one place:

  • Per shipping-method override — if set, overrides the connection default for that specific method. (Stored as shipment_methods.settings.page_format_id.)

Today there is no self-service screen in ChannelDock to view or edit the page format ID. To change it, contact ChannelDock support and tell them:

  1. Which Internetmarke connection (or which specific shipping method) should be changed.
  2. The page format ID you want to use (see the tables above — for example 1 for DIN A4, 90 for the Dymo 99014 thermal label, or 81 for the Brother DK-22243 102 mm roll).

Support will first check which formats your account actually has access to, then update the stored page format ID for you.

Tips for choosing a page format

  • Thermal label printer (roll) — use a LABELPRINTER page type with a single label per page (ChannelDock’s default, ID 90 when available). This prints one stamp per label with the recipient address, ideal for shipping small goods.
  • DIN A4 printer — use the DIN A4 plain paper format (ID 1). Deutsche Post lays out 10 stamps (2 × 5) on the sheet; you then cut them apart.
  • Pre-cut A4 label sheets — pick the LABELPAGE format whose label size matches the die-cut sheet you bought (Zweckform / Herma article number is usually printed on the packaging).
  • Envelope printer — use the matching ENVELOPE format for your envelope size (C5, C6, C4, B5, B6, DIN lang, …).
  • Make sure the format you choose has addr = Y, otherwise the recipient address will not be printed on the stamp and ChannelDock will not be able to use it for shipping labels.
