Billing storage costs
Last updated
Storage on an invoice is a daily amount per occupied stock section. ChannelDock logs that amount from your warehouse sections. Invoicing either bills the log, or replaces the daily rate with a storage rule.
Turn on Include storage costs on invoice on the profile. With the toggle off, storage lines are omitted.
Before you bill storage
Map the warehouse sections that hold seller stock. Storage billing reads those sections. See Warehouse mapping.
Section prices you maintain under Administration are what get logged. A storage rule can replace the logged rate for the days it matches.
Three ways the daily rate is chosen
Only enabled rules whose fee category is Storage are considered. They run in priority order (lower numbers first).
| Setup | What the seller is charged |
|---|---|
| Toggle on, and the profile has no storage rules | The logged daily cost for each occupied section |
| One storage rule, with no conditions | Still the logged daily cost. The rule is recorded, and it does not replace the log. |
| More than one storage rule, or any storage rule with conditions | The first rule that matches that section on that day sets the rate. Days and sections that match nothing fall back to the logged cost. |
Put the specific rule first and the general rule after it. Example: priority 10 is “Euro pallet sections, €1.50 per section per day”, priority 20 is “all other sections, €0.80 per section per day”.
How to price a storage rule
On cost category Storage the charge types are:
| Charge type | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Per section per day | The amount is the daily rate for that section. This is the Fixed charge type; the form labels it Per section per day. |
| Tiered | Brackets on Storage volume (m³) or Storage volume (cm³). The amount of the matching bracket is charged once per section per day. Per unit (marginal) adds each slice of volume at that bracket’s rate. |
Conditions can use Storage and Seller only.
| Storage field | Use |
|---|---|
| Stock section | One section, a list of sections, or Is under (incl. subsections) for a parent and everything beneath it |
| Warehouse | Limit the rate to one warehouse |
| Pick location | Yes or No, to price pick faces differently from bulk storage |
| Volume (cm³) | Only sections above or below a volume |
| Logged daily rate | Only sections whose logged rate is above or below a number |
| Load carrier | Shown after you add load carrier types. See below. |
| Seller | A rate for one connected seller inside a shared profile |
Load carriers on storage
Create the types first under Settings > WMS Configuration > Load carriers. Until at least one type exists, the Load carrier field stays hidden on storage conditions. Setup and inbound pallet pricing are in Billing inbound, returns, and load carriers.
A section matches a load-carrier storage rule when every stock location in that section uses the same load carrier type. Empty locations are ignored. A mix of types, or a section with no type at all, does not match a type-specific rule. Those days use the next matching rule, or the logged rate when nothing else matches.
Example: priority 10 is Storage, Load carrier equals Euro pallet, €1.50 per section per day. Priority 20 has no load-carrier condition, €0.80 per section per day. A section that is entirely Euro pallet is €1.50. A section that mixes Euro pallet and block pallet, or has no type, is €0.80.
Check the result
Use Test profile on a date range before you export. On the XLSX invoice, storage lines sit on the storage sheet. If a section looks cheap or expensive, compare its logged daily rate with the first storage rule that matches it.
